My husband and I enjoy Fiona’s yoga classes immensely, formerly in person and now on Zoom. I have been taking yoga classes on and off for the past 35 years, and Fiona is my favorite teacher of all time!

As someone who can’t always manage to do some of the yoga postures in the ultimate way, I really appreciate that Fiona provides clear instructions on how to “modify” the poses. I have found that most teachers don’t do that and it would leave me confused as to how to do the pose when I wasn’t capable of replicating exactly what the teacher was doing.

Fiona’s input and descriptions help her students get in touch with the goal of the pose and modify it to benefit them if needed. My husband and I also completely enjoy Fiona’s humor during her classes and her references to the YLC. It makes for a fun class. Fiona’s classes are so good that our cats routinely join us for the sessions, often trying to get on the mats and participate with us! Best yoga teacher ever!

Fiona has been a favorite yoga teacher for over 20 years starting with group classes at Yoga House followed by private lessons in my home to today’s Yoga Lovelies Club of which I am a proud member.

Her instructions are very clear and  yes, I do need to be told “head up, chin in” every time I do a plank.  The directions are always cheerful with a bit of humor thrown in which keeps me going.

Some teachers act like exercising is just so damn much fun and for some I’m sure it is, but for my part, I appreciate her acknowledgment that some things are just “hard, but so good for us!”  Fiona always offers many modifications to all poses so no one is left behind to feel inadequate.

The Yoga Lovelies Club was a silver lining to the pandemic for my household! Fiona, for you I’ll always try to do a side plank!

“I love my weekly YLC class which I do virtually from the UK. My strength and flexibility has improved a lot (fab when you are 50!) and the classes are fun. Fiona is a fabulous teacher - always thinking about everyone’s different abilities and explains each move brilliantly. It’s so inclusive for everyone.”

“My wife and I look forward to the days we welcome Fiona into our home (on video). She’s been a teacher of ours for years, and she’s only gotten better with age - as have we, under her guidance. Of all the instructors we’ve had, Fiona’s the best at giving direction and cheerful encouragement. We look forward to her classes every week.”

"I’ve been doing yoga with Fiona for about 5 years, and there’s nothing like it.  She guides us through exercises that stretch out all of those muscles that have tightened up from sitting at a desk all day, with poses that are not unnecessarily complicated. Fiona’s class is not all about stretching, muscle work is also incorporated into each session, to help us build strength in addition to flexibility. She always encourages us to be kind to ourselves in our practice, while also challenging us to do the best we can, in the best way that we can.  Thanks, Fiona, for helping keep this 68 year old moving!"

“My YLC class is my favourite exercise of the week.  Fiona is a fantastic teacher who manages to explain everything clearly and be effortlessly entertaining while she’s doing it.  The yoga is powerful yet gentle, particularly perfect for anyone over 45 who wants challenge but not discomfort. You will feel better when you finish the class.  You will want to come back next week.”

Fiona is a terrific teacher! I learn something new every time I take a class with her, and I have been studying yoga for almost three decades (and one decade with her!).

With Fiona, we get both the physical and spiritual sides of the practice (more emphasis on the physical, which is my preference, but never ignoring the spiritual).

Fiona teaches with joy. She clearly enjoys her own practice and the act of imparting her wisdom to us. She understands that we are all on a journey, and she is leading us gently and firmly to a better place, with a light touch and deep knowledge.

She is smart, well-rounded and grounded, funny and caring and always available and open. Her dog Ella is often in the session, and she is the perfect yogi: flexible, chill and just a little curious. We all aspire to be like Ella.

I tell my friends taking Fiona’s yoga class is like taking yoga with Mary Poppins: Fiona’s practical and loving approach to yoga, delivered in her oh-so-charming English accent makes me look forward to going to the mat for (mostly) effortless fun.

“The Yoga Lovelies Club got me through the pandemic and beyond. Fiona always makes the time go by so fast, and I end up feeling stronger and better mentally (big praise). Maybe my favorite thing, besides her always setting up many variations of any given pose, is that at any time she gives us permission to rest in child’s pose! Truly a wonderful class.”

“I have dabbled with yoga before. But I have never felt so rejuvenated by it, like my body needs it and looks forward to it. Fiona's yoga is just sooo good. Like a hot shower after a long day. I am not avoiding it, but carving out time to do it. I am a busy person. Imagine your busiest friend, and that's me. I don't have time for this kind of thing, and yet of course I do. I choose to do it, each week. If I am unable to do it during my chosen dedicated time slot, I get antsy. There is something so effortless about it, even if I am in a pose which I wouldn't normally choose to exist in (!).

Since starting this class, I am standing better, and have less back & neck pain and I sleep better.  This hasn't happened in years. Not only that, but I feel all those niggles about not having time to myself just float away in just one hour, and that feeling lasts all week until my next precious class with Fiona. It is a reward and I treasure it. To all the doubters, I tell you this class makes you stronger without being painful or truly uncomfortable, ie truly for all ages & stages. It is also informative. I like to know why I have to do something, but Fiona doesn't bore me with the information. She is funny and extremely knowledgeable. Simply put, Fiona's class makes you feel better.”

“I'm a reluctant exerciser, I'm downright allergic; but with Fiona, she makes yoga a pleasure. Fiona has been my private instructor on and off for 15 years. She has accommodated all sorts of injuries with sense and knowledge. She is very good at modifying the poses so that they are challenging but also accessible. I truly feel safe and every session starts and ends with us laughing. Perfect!”

“I love YLC and Fiona’s yoga classes!  She gives the illusion that they are slow paced, but then smuggles in postures that are really intense and strengthening.  It’s great!  I signed up a couple of years ago for the recordings (I’m based in the UK) and I’ve never looked back!”

—ALEXANDRA S.

"I love the flow of the YLC classes:  focusing and calming the mind to begin, going on to warming the body up, then challenging the body with strengthening/ lengthening, adding Pilates-flavored moves, sprinkling in counter poses and little respites before continuing on to the next series.  Strengthening and balance are particularly helpful for me.  Fiona's cuing throughout is clear and informative as to how and why we are doing what we're doing, and she offers modifications for all to safely and successfully progress through the class.  There is no pressure to achieve perfectly executed asanas, just encouragement for safely doing something very good for ourselves.  All levels of practice and all ages can benefit from Fiona's classes, which are fun (and often funny).  And on some lucky occasions we are visited by a dog or cat.  In taking these classes I feel like I am doing something really positive and caring for myself.”

My husband and I met Fiona at a yoga studio 23 years ago, beginning a lifetime relationship. We were captivated by her sparkling, sunny disposition and precision instructions and she soon became a steady influential thread in our lives.

In 2008, having burned out on the 7am three day a week driving drudge to yoga, we remodeled the gazebo in our back yard into a small yoga studio to have choices. Ten years ago, we made the paramount decision to start twice weekly private lessons with Fiona at our home. Best decision ever! The concentrated, efficient and effective sequences (which include pilates-inspired moves) are amazing strength-building resources using only your body. They are long enough to feel the fire, but short enough to bear the work.

Those muscles gained saved me from a dangerous fall. While speaking to someone behind me, I turned to find my car and tripped over a parking block, falling from vertical to horizontal in a second. I never touched the ground with my body or face, just my toes and hands caught and held me. That is core and upper arm muscles to be sure!

My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Autumn of 2020. Fiona designed a set of fluid and substantial sequences for him to hold onto his muscle mass/strength. It has helped immensely to slow the impact of the disease. Her “can do” not “must do” approach brings a feeling of accomplishment no matter your ability on a given day. We tend to push ourselves. We have learned from Fiona to appreciate any given day as a successful practice and stay in the moment. Tomorrow may be different and that’s fine too.

I am 79, my husband 76. As Fiona has been saying for decades, “getting to the mat is the hardest part.” Truth! As we continue to benefit from Fiona’s dedication, penetrating focus, pithy inspiration and razor sharp wit, we are well sustained to continue our voyage (as Van Morrison puts it) “into the mystic”. We simply adore her!”
